Breast Cancer Awareness Month - The Rose
Breast Cancer awareness month was created to raise awareness and increasing funding to find a cure for the disease. Besides Skin Cancer, Breast Cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in American women with an estimated 1 out of every 8 women in the United States expected to be diagnosed with the sickness in their lifetimes. On average, a woman is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes, as reported by the National Breast Cancer Association. According to The American Cancer Society, in 2020 alone, about 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women, about 48,530 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer), about 42,170 women will die from breast cancer. Despite these concerning statistics, there has been progress.
From 2013 to 2017, the death rate among those who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer has decreased by 1.3% each year. This decrease has been contributed to awareness efforts and medical screenings leading to the disease being caught earlier and better treatment. The fight against Breast Cancer is still well and truly alive.
